BHK leader Gagik Tsarukyan's voter buying case / ex-MP spills the beans
Buckle up, kids, and grab your 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
In 2019 some dumba$$ construction company decided to bribe the Yerevan Urban Development agency.
NSS raided the construction company's office. They found something they weren't looking for: a piece of paper detailing how the construction company allegedly took money from BHK leader Gagik Tsarukyan to buy voters.
This investigation stretched through late-2019 and early-2020. The NSS was preparing a case against BHK leader Tsarukyan.
Meanwhile, Yerevan's Urban Development chief Vermishyan was arrested and charged with bribery (the original construction bribery that led to uncovering of voter buying).
It turns out another ex-BHK MP [candidate] Vazgen Poghosyan is also charged with the original construction bribery. He was later charged with voter buying, too.
This guy decided to sing.
He testified against his fellow ex-MP Abraham and told investigators about the voter buying scheme.
ex-MP Abraham was then charged with aiding leader Tsarukyan with voter buying. Abraham and Tsarukyan are the main voter-buying suspects.
Defendant ex-MP Abraham claims the accuser ex-MP Vazgen is lying and that "he gave conflicting testimonies about taking money but not remembering why he took it".
In case the story wasn't spicy enough, the defendant ex-MP Abraham is asking judge Farkhanyan to recuse hismelf, because the judge's brother is also a defendant as part of the original construction bribery case.

... Nikol Pashinyan turned himself in and got arrested. His charges were related to March 1st protests.
Before the arrest, he spent a year hiding in Yerevan, while using tricks to fool the investigators into believing he fled abroad.

30% believe the conflict will resolve peacefully in 5 years.
43% believe it'll be resolved peacefully in general, 44% said not peacefully.

111,665 tested. 10,900 active. 14,563 healed. 453 deaths (149 of whom from "other" causes)

EU donated 10,000 test kits. These only take 75 minutes, versus 5 hours with "traditional" kits.
Pashinyan's COVID briefing:
Unfortunately, we still haven't managed to achieve the main goal of learning to live next to COVID while respecting safety.
536 serious. 117 critical.
Dozens of daily deaths. We can reduce this by following safety.
Overall deaths in 2020 are now higher than deaths in 2019, for the same period. It's not entirely due to COVID, but COVID contributes.
To all parents: your children aren't little kids anymore. You don't have to gather outside of the unified school exam centers during the upcoming exams. Let them be there alone.
Businessman Lfik Samo's cousin beat a cop
... say investigators after reviewing CCTV footage. It began after the cousin refused to leave a cafe that the cops were shutting down due to COVID.
Cops said the man resisted and threw punches. They dragged the man and his friends to the police station. The arrest portion was filmed by bystanders and presented as police brutality.
The investigation found the cop to be the victim. No one is officially charged.
Police encounter a karen while distributing masks
A Facebook user claims the cops were traveling around and distributing free masks "kindly" when a woman got upset, resisted wearing one, and attacked the cops.
She was eventually arrested and complained about losing her wallet while getting in the police car.
On the other hand
... people voluntarily practiced social distancing while standing in Artashat clinic queue.
Woman's body mysteriously disappears because of doctor's terrible handwriting
A 90yo woman died of COVID on June 29th.
Sister's grandchild says: they told us to pick up her personal items from the hospital, then go to Abovyan morgue to get the body, which is where they keep COVID bodies.
My brother went to morgue and couldn't find her. He called the police.
After a lengthy runaround and investigation, it turns out the hospital's sanitar transported the body to the ambulance worker, but the latter couldn't understand the handwriting, so he entered the wrong patient name before transporting.
I don't get it. Couldn't he just call the doctor to clarify the handwriting?
The Abovyan morgue employee claims some people later came, without full paperwork, visually identified some body as their relative and took it away.
The police are now looking for those people to see if they mistakenly took our relative.
We need to find our grandma.
Made in Armenia test kits
Earlier the govt gave $500,000 to Armenian scientists to import raw materials for COVID test kit production. The job was completed last week.
2,000/day, with possible expansion. No worse than imported ones. 98-100% accuracy.
Armenian kit costs <$5 while imported ones $10. They can't export it because Armenia doesn't have the legal framework for kit's international certification.
Conscript recruitment season is here
Army's summer recruitment began. All conscripts are tested before participating in the lottery that selects their deployment location.
Defense Minister Tonoyan also took tests after arriving from Russia. He went to WW2 parade.
Armenian envoy to Syria makes 5th trip
Armenian humanitarian sappers and doctors left Syria. The 5th group, consisted of 73 members, went to Syria to continue the mission.
182k m2 area cleared of mines. 14k civilians received medical help.
The report says: in 2019 the govt optimized Ministries, eliminated some, and turned the Diaspora Ministry into an office attached to PM's office.
What has the Office done so far?
In Dec-2019 they organized Neruzh initiative to invite representatives from 47 diasporan tech startups. A competition was held with 6 winners. They were informed about Armenian laws to encourage investments.
In 2019H2 they co-organized 3 conferences, one of which was the International Armenian Medical Conference attended by 435 doctors from 21 countries. Experience was exchanged.
In Oct-2019 they co-organized Armenian Trade Network conference attended by 197 diasporans from 26 countries, to help the economy.
In Oct-2019 they joined the Armenia-France Health Action initiative and co-organized a heart-health related conference attended by 380 doctors.
In 2020 they lobbied the govt to pass the law that eliminates border taxes on imported household items, including cars, if an Armenian wants to repatriate.
In 2020 they wrote a bill to provide mortgage, medical, and business aid to repatriates.
Family alimony laws in Armenia
Armenian law about "child support" is broader. It requires working children to financially take care of their parents and siblings.
The court can freeze and confiscate assets if necessary.
This 2004 law is seldom utilized, according to an analyst. Children usually take care of their parents. "The part about paying siblings is what catches them off guard."
Now you know why Darth Vader confessed to fathering Luke Skywalker.
Amulsar miner Lydian hires armed guards
Amulsar miner Lydian has been complaining about environmental activists not letting them visit the mining site. Yesterday they hired new armed guards "to protect the property on site".
Activists complained that the guards moved some woods from the area, and ran over their puppies. An argument ensued.
The police came today. The activists briefly clashed with the police.
Spitak-Mets Parn road is being repaired
Residents begin to repair roads themselves
Vanadzor can't find a qualified contractor who'll take the asphalt repair job, so drivers took it upon themselves.
Driving school tutors began pouring asphalt holes with concrete last week. Members of other car clubs followed suit.
They travel around the city, loaded with construction materials, to hunt for holes.
You are addicted to the internet, Admit it
As of 2020, people around the world spend 6 hours and 40 minutes a day using the net.
That means 100 days per year is spent on the internet.
That's 40% of your daily life.
72% of Armenians use the internet daily, with 48% actively using social media.
update: Yerevan's Circular Park renovations begin
Earlier Yerevan said they'll renovate the "Oghakadzev Aygi". The work has begun.
Grandmaster Levon Aronyan is recovering
He lost his wife in a car incident recently. He's been recovering.
Aronyan: I listen to music, cook, and do some workout. I've returned to normal life and work.
Maria Grinberg and Tatiana Nokolayeva for classical music, Andy Bey for Jazz.
As many of you do, I also learn to work remotely. It ain't much, but it's honest work.
It angers me that I can't train fully due to quarantine. I do a light workout with Ponchik the doggo. (u no lift bro?)
