Azeri army tried to do engineering work to improve its border positions near the northeastern Tavush region. Armenian border guards fired shots to prevent it.
Around the same time, Azeri outlets reported the death of 1 Azeri soldier, Farzali Farzaliyev, who was allegedly killed by an Armenian sniper shot in the same region where Armenia said it prevented the Azeri border advancements.
Police vs Criminal Subculture
The police received a tip then detained a criminal subculture figure Artyom Kanevskoi and his bodyguards after finding shotgun, rifle, knife, and ammo under their possession, and in their cars.
"We are doing everything possible to eliminate the criminal subculture and to protect the society", said police, echoing PM Pashinyan's rhetoric against the subculture.
NSS vs Criminal Subculture
NSS busted several Penitentiary officials. They colluded with several inmates, helped them become զոն նայող (mini criminal-authority within a prison bloc), did favors for them, extended their stays in hospitals to help them stay away from prison, etc.
A felony investigation continues.
Salaries & Bonuses
Education Ministry, which includes 3 other ministries after the recent merger, had a budget of 1.7bln for salaries and bonuses for the year of 2019.
This information, along with precise details on which portion of that 1.7bln were the employee bonuses, were given to media outlets.
Roboserj outlet AntiFake mislead the readers into believing the Education paid 1.7bln in bonuses alone. This was picked up and circulated by other Roboserj outlets, prompting criticism of Ministry on the internet.
Context: There is an ongoing campaign by HHK and ARF to defame the Education Minister Arayik Harutyunyan for his ongoing education reforms.
Mountain hiking - PM surprises hikers
Yesterday we learned that Pashinyan climbed Mt. Artanish with a group of hikers from Armenian Geographic.
The group leader Tigran Varag shared a story:
Every time we climb, I make sure everyone walks in one line. It's safer and makes us a team. Yet every time there is that one guy who walks away and you have to tell him to get back in line. Our country will develop when we all learn to respect "the line" and become part of it. It'll indicate a discipline.
We were ready to begin our journey. I asked Nature Minister Eric about the whereabouts of his unnamed friends who were supposed to join us. He pointed to 4 cars coming our way. I jokingly said it was the PM. It turnout out it was.
Pashinyan got out of the car and started to greet us with his usual smile, and I started to think, what if this guy doesn't respect "the line". How will I push him into it? "No exceptions", I thought.
I instructed the group to follow me and not to get behind the coordinator Hrachuhi, who must be all the way in the back. Pashinyan started to look for Hrachuchi.
We kicked off. PM was the 7th in line. Everybody in one line. The bodyguards would drift away sometimes, but I gave them a pass, it's their job.
I felt better for not having to discipline the PM. I thought that this will be a great way to convince others in the future, "Even Nikol agreed to be in the line, are you special?"
Sometimes I'd notice PM's heavy breathing and offer a break. He would say "you're the leader, you decide".
I decided to take a pic with everyone on the tip of the Mt. Then I thought what if PM doesn't make it to the top (🍿 intensifies). I looked back and noticed he still had energy but decided to take a group pic there, out of impatience.
We posted it on Facebook. Then PM went Live. It was a mini-revolution in Armenian Mt. hiking.
We reached the peak. PM went LIVE and made the video urging peace in the region.
We then descended down, and as always, the line was broken, but that's OK during descending. PM wondered why everyone was breaking the line. He felt it was easier in a line.
It was the first time an Armenian leader climbed a Mt. with a hiking group. A unique day for our "Armenian Geographic" group.
PM then advertised such hiking, promoting a healthy lifestyle and getting to know the Armenian nature. He then thanked everyone and left.
Special thanks to Minister Eric, this was the biggest surprise in my life.
End of article.
Pashinyan thanked the organizers for the "interesting and safe project" that helps discover the Armenian nature".
Pensions & Economy
QP MP Babken Tunyan:
~500,000 seniors receive a 10% pension raise beginning this month. This wasn't done for several years. This will be done every year from now on, while the economy grows.
Armenia has surpassed Georgia with GDP per capita in 2019 and is close to surpassing Azerbaijan. PM earlier incorrectly said Armenia already surpassed Azerbaijan. Not yet.
Sports and Art
Grandmaster Levon Aronian is in the South African republic. He played against 107 players and kids simultaneously.
The ongoing Australian fires were painted on the body of an Armenian painter. "This painting was different in terms of its emotional appeal", the painter said.
Premier League's Goals of the decade. Henrikh Mkhitaryan's scorption-shot is on the list.
