Ruins of Armenian Church in Yelkenli

Yelkenli was once an Armenian village named Surp or Sorp. It is located on the shores of Lake Van.

Remains of the Monastery of John-the-Baptist of Sorp, building date unknown, restaurated in the 16th century on a hill above Lake Van, next to the village of Yelkenli (Sorp). (J.N. Thierry, Monastères arméniens du Vaspurakan VI, in: Revue des Études arméniennes, n.s. 9 (1972) (pp.153-156)
