Vahé Tachjian is a historian. Born in [[Lebanon]], he earned his Ph.D. in History and Civilization at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. His research covers the period of the [[French]] occupation of [[Cilicia]], [[Syria]] and Lebanon between the two World Wars, the last years of the Ottoman Empire, refugee problems in the Middle East, and Kurdish-Armenian relations. He has carrried out extensive research in archives in Paris, Nantes, London, Cairo, Beirut, Aleppo, and Yerevan. Among his publications are “The Prince”: The Life and Political Activity of Ishkhan of Van, Yerevan, 1994, 210 pages (in Armenian); La France en Cilicie et en Haute-Mésopotamie. Aux confins de la Turquie, de la Syrie et de l’Irak, Karthala Editions, Paris, 2004, 465 pages; (with co-editors Raymond Kévorkian and Michel Paboudjian), Introduction and Notes to Ohannès Pacha Kouyoumdjian, Le Liban à la veille et au début de la guerre. Mémoires d’un gouverneur, 1913-1915, Beirut, 2003; (with co-editors Raymond Kévorkian and Lévon Nordiguian), Les Arméniens, 1917-1939. La quête d’un refuge, Presses de l’Université Saint-Joseph, Beirut, 2006, 320 pages. He was one of the organizers of the photographic exhibition held in Beirut in 2006: The Armenians, 1917-1939: The Quest for a Shelter in the Near East. He is currently employed as a research associate in the Nubarian Library, Paris.
