Car Owners In Armenia Not Have To Visit Technical Inspection Stations

arminfo Tuesday, November 15, 15:48

Car owners in Armenia not have to visit technical inspection stations, Eduard Hovhannissyan, Head of Achilles NGO for protection of drivers' rights, told media on November 15.

He said the government has facilitated the technical inspection rules earlier this year. Technical inspection stations no longer provide technical inspection cards. Now these cards are provided by banks to avoid extra charges by the above stations. "Paying all the taxes to the local self-government and bank and receiving the technical inspection card, a car owner does not have to visit a technical inspection station. He can just stick the card on the windscreen," he said. Hovhannissyan explained that banks issue a two-layer card. The first layer is stuck on the windscreen and the second is for technical inspection stations to receive the 5500 drams state tax for their services. If the car owner does not visit a technical inspection station, the bank will transfer this amount to the state budget, he said.

He said that the station of technical inspection is not responsible for the state of a car. It is the car owner that must be interested in the proper state of his car and visit the inspection station when necessary. Asked how many cars are registered in Armenia, Hovhannissyan said that the Police and other authorities do not provide such data because of state secrecy. There are data just on 2010 - 370-380,000 cars passed technical inspection.
