The Anahid Prize was founded by an anonymous donor to recognize emerging Armenian American writers for their achievement and their potential. It has been given since 1989 during a year when a book has been deemed worthy of the prize. The prize is now given by the Armenian Center at Columbia University and comes with an award of $5,000. There have been more than a dozen winners in poetry, fiction, playwriting, and screen writing since that time.
