Vladimir Akopian (born December 7, 1971) is a leading Armenian chess Grandmaster.
In 1991 he won the World Junior Chess Championship and in 1999 he made his way through to the final of the FIDE Knock-Out World Chess Championship, but lost to Alexander Khalifman, 3.5-2.5. In the FIDE World Chess Championship, 2004, he was knocked out in the quarter-finals by the player he had defeated in the 1999 semi, Michael Adams.
Akopian played for Armenia in the Chess Olympiads of 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008.
On the July 2009 FIDE list, Akopian has an Elo rating of 2712, making him number 25 in the world and Armenia's number two player.
