Marie was the eldest child of the late Ohannes and Knar Kouyoumdjian. She grew up in Ethiopia, where she attended the Kevorkoff Armenian School. A talented and accomplished seamstress, Marie built a loyal clientele in Addis Ababa that included people of all nationalities.

In July 1956, she married Dickran Mesrobian, and together they were blessed with two sons, Harout and Antreas. Marie placed great importance on education and was determined that both her sons pursue higher studies - first in Armenia and later in the United States.

Following the 1974 revolution, Marie and Dickran remained in Ethiopia for several years before migrating to the United States in 1987. They lived in Chicago for twelve years, close to Harout and Antreas as the boys completed their studies. Marie continued her work as a seamstress in Chicago until her retirement.

In 1999, she and Dickran moved to Los Angeles after Harout and his family settled there. Their sons’ marriages and the arrival of five grandchildren filled their lives with immense joy and pride. In later years, they were further blessed with four great-grandchildren.

After Dickran’s passing, Marie’s health gradually declined. Throughout this time, her sons and daughters-in-law - Harout and Rita, Antreas and Delilah — provided her with exceptional care, devotion, and love, well beyond the call of duty.

Marie was deeply loved and respected by her family, both near and extended, as well as by countless friends from around the world. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, patience, and grace - a lady who gave selflessly of herself to everyone around her.

Funeral services were held for Marie at St. Peter’s Armenian Apostolic Church in Van Nuys.
