The smallest and less populated area of Western Armenia and the center of city today. It is surrounded by Erzinjan in the north, Kherpert in the south, Sivas in the west and Kighi / Bingol (Thousand-lakes ??) in the east. Historically it is called as Der-sim in Persian although the term has been also used for a larger area from the south part of Sivas to the western part of Mush in the medival ages including Amed, Kighi and Kherpet. As it was and has still being a ruined and forgotten area, named as Kalan / Khalan (or by its republican name Tunceli - an example of millions of ideological names in post-fascist era).
