Maryvonne Kendergian

Maryvonne Kendergi is a writer, professor, musicographer, pianist and commentator from Quebec. Born in Aintab in 1915, she died 27 September 2011. She became a Canadian citizen in 1960.

SOME OF MME KENDERGI'S ACHIEVEMENTS AND TITLES RECEIVED:

- Professor at Université de Montréal from 1967, she established Canadian music as an academic subject and created the «Musialogues» (1969).

- Founding Member and organizer of the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) in 1966, Président of this Association in 1973.

- Member of «Cahiers canadiens de musique» editorial board (1970).

- President of Comitte (canadian section) of the Société internationale de musique contemporaine since 1973.

- President of the Conseil canadien de la musique and vice-president of the Canadian Arts Council since 1977.

- In 1980, she became the first President of the Association pour l'avancement de la recherche en musique du Québec and was awarded the Ordre of Canada.

- En 1983, elle reçoit le prix «Lynch-Staunton» du Conseil des arts du Canada.

- En 1985 Chevalière de l'ordre National du Québec.

- En 1992 Officier de l'Ordre du Canada.

- Doctorat honoris causa de l'Université McGill.

Mme Kendergi usually started her lectures by saying : "Je suis d'origine Arménienne, née en 1915 à Aintab, Turquie et je suis survivante du Génocide Armenien".
