Bishop Tertzakian was struck and killed by a car while walking near his Belmont home. From 1995 to 2000, Bishop Tertzakian was the leader of the Apostolic Exarchate for Armenian Catholics in the United States and Canada. Similar to a diocese, an exarchy is a church jurisdiction established for Eastern Catholics living outside their native lands.
