Sites allowing Armeniapedia use of materials

FAQ (frequently asked questions)

  1. Can I use material from Armeniapedia.org? -you can use it for your own private personal use and your classroom without asking permission. For use in publications and other websites - my policy is ASK ME FIRST! I usually say ok to requests to any use these materials with proper attribution, but not always. Same goes for photographs.
  2. Can I use material from Armeniapedia.org on Wikipedia.org? - again, you must ask, and again usually I am fine with it.
  3. Can I add material from Wikipedia onto Armeniapedia? -anytime, that is their policy, but please add the {{wikipedia}} tag to the bottom of the page to make sure the page complies with fair useage and gives proper credit.
  4. Can I add a page about myself? -sure, and any other Armenian or person place or thing related to Armenians!
  5. What if I want to add something, but maintain my copyright? -that is fine, just add it in a seperate section (or page) with the appropriate disclaimer and state that it should not be edited - though this type of material might eventually migrate to a sub page.
  6. How do I reach you? -I check this page often, so it is an ideal way to reach me.
  7. Something is wrong! Something is vandalised! Fix it! -well I appreciate being told about mistakes, etc, but since this is a wiki, I appreciate even more if you fix it! :-)
  8. Who are you? -see the Raffi Kojian article

I've been working on the formatting of the Armenian Language Lessons pages. I hope I've improved it. A specific request, could you check the table-isation of pronouns here ? I'm not a speaker of the language and may have messed it up. Regards - Francis Tyers 13:00, 6 December 2007 (PST)

Glad you like it :)
A couple of questions:
1. Could you add the wikitable css to MediaWiki:Common.css ?
2. Do you know the details of the copyright for the language lessons, I suppose that they are from some Soviet era course (considering the examples). Do you know exactly where they came from, so if I use examples I can cite them?
Thanks, - Francis Tyers 06:01, 9 December 2007 (PST)
OK, I added the css - I hope it works. I didn't notice a difference, but maybe you will. As for your second request, I have moved the original table of contents which you don't seem to have found from "Armenian Lessons", to "Armenian Language Lessons", where you have been working. There you will see the link to the Introduction (which has the info you're asking about - and indeed it was an old Soviet book), among other things. --Raffi 18:25, 9 December 2007 (PST)
Thanks! It looks much better now (see the table here)), although it doesn't look exactly like the english wikipedia its fine. Great (about the table of contents), I basically found the other pages by going through and adding +1 to the number, obviously with 6a/6b this didn't work :) I'll get round to doing those other pages later. - Francis Tyers 23:10, 9 December 2007 (PST)
Could you add the CSS below aswell please? :) - Francis Tyers 04:30, 10 December 2007 (PST)

ok, done! I hope the other tables on other pages don't look funny after this... :-) --Raffi 05:52, 10 December 2007 (PST)

Have you read this?: http://www.armenialiberty.org/armeniareport/report/en/2008/01/7EC55FA6-AA55-4C7B-B5AF-030410065AC6.ASP -- Aivazovsky 16:53, 4 January 2008 (PST)

The Saroyan works

I just found your site after reading "Black Dog of Fate" by Peter Balakian. I was so sad to see that I missed out on the Saroyan writings that you had on this site, because his family objected to this. It's very disappointing especailly to Armenians who really are like me - hungry to get their hands on anything Armenian and really too poor to afford the greater luxuries of life - like books out of print, or books in general. This computer isn't even mine.

I am an American-Armenian - first generation born in New York City. I am suffering from Leukemia and so I feel my days are numbered. My sister sent me the book "Black Dog of Fate", and I read it in 2 days. I cried through most of it, because this is the "life" my Mother suffered through. I don't know what was said to you, in full, as to why Saroyan's family did not want his writings read, but it seems a little selfish to deny the poorer Armenians a chance to obtain a greater understanding of this great writer. Like Peter Balakian, my parents tried to sheild me from most of what they experienced in 1915 Armenia. But my Mother told me a little and this hurt me, too. But I feel everyone should know the truth - there is too little in the classrooms - I know, because my son is a High School History Teacher. I hope to hear from you - thank you for a wonderful site. -Sandy(Rose)Siroonian

Raffi, Thank you so much for your quick response - when I told my son about this site and what had happened to the Saroyan writings, he mentioned that it was probably a case of copyright infringement and maybe I would be able to find the writings somewhere else - but I did mention they were "out of print". I hope you're right about the family and that maybe they will somehow allow his older works to be accesssed in the future. Thank you again, Raffi. Respectfully, Sandy Siroonian

Sure, but if you be more specific it would help.--Hye 15:33, 28 January 2008 (PST)

Dear Raffi, You may recall in November (07) I tried to list a book by the Armenia Author, Sooren Apkarian, my father. I made an error on the listing and you very authoritatively deleted the entire contribution (which I'd work hours at creating). I did write to you to explain that I was sorry for having made this error, requesting you to kindly just list the book and the ISBN, to no avail, as I never received a reply to my email. I understand you are busy, as we all are, and I am now going to ask you again if you would be able to allow me to list just the name of the book and the ISBN, in the travel section as it is about my Sooren's trips to his homeland in the 70s. Please can you please let me know if this is ok by you, Webmaster?

Thank you and I await your reply. If I do not receive this email from you, I will presume it will be ok and simply contribute this basic information (name of book, name of author and ISBN, as is listed for other authors on the site), and I reassure you that this time I will not be contravening any of the rules for which I again apologise.

Yours sincerely,

Denise Apkarian Panattoni, BSc, MA

Hi Denise, yes, I am very busy, but I try to make sure contributions here are valued, unless they are just overly spam-like or ridiculous, which yours does not sound like... so what was the mistake you made, on what page, and what makes you think I got your email? I have no idea what you're talking about, and don't remember deleting, nor any email. I state very clearly that any messages to me need to be put on this page, so I'm not sure why you would send an email or where. In any case, there is no need to call my changes authoritative, or call me Webmaster (with a capital W no less), this is neither flattering nor funny. From what I understand from your explanation, you need to put your info on a Sooren Apkarian page for now, and perhaps list the book name on an appropriate list of books in the book section. Also if you go to the page you worked on, and click on history, you can easily see your old contributions... I could not find any trace of a change on the book pages in November. Good luck, --Raffi 10:50, 31 January 2008 (PST)

Dear Raffi Thank you for your reply. I have done as you've suggested and created a Sooren Apkarian page. I note above that you state you couldn't find the former page I was referring to, and I think this may be because I'd entered it with my Armenian username Apkar. Nevertheless, I've now created a page and I hope this is ok. Ideally, it would be nice to have this book 'My Armenian Heritage' listed on the BOOK page of Armeniapedia, as well. Is this possible in it's current format, or should I edit it down to very brief, like the other books mentioned are listed? Please advise. Thank you and kind regards, denise apkarian panattoni

You're welcome. I actually couldn't find any changes that you could have been referring to, so as far as I can tell, you never successfully saved them. In any case, the page looks good now, and you can link to it from the Armenian Biographical Books page, in the same format as the other books. Thanks, --Raffi 21:50, 1 February 2008 (PST)

Sooren Apkarian

Hi raffi jan,

I recently posted a clip on YouTube called: Armenian Genocide - The Fact http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt3LZL45oo0

Relating to that famous Raphael Lemkin's interview on CBS, which I think is one of the most important documents & yet is being neglected by our own historians in the fight against denialist propaganda.

While reading Harout Sassounian's article on Armeniapedia, I was thinking that would be wise idea to see a link to Raphael Lemkin's clip, either hosted on your site or linked to my YT clip.

I could't see how to do that, if it's possible. Appreciate your help.

Hey to let you know I have added it to these two articles so far, Raphael Lemkin and Lemkin Discusses Armenian Genocide In Newly-Found 1949 CBS Interview. --Hye 19:19, 25 April 2008 (PDT)

The map of the city of Van

Dear Raffi The map presented as the map of the city of van in the article: Van is wrong. According to the aerial photographs and the topographical maps I have your map does not correspond to the reality.
