G. M. Goshgarian has translated poetry and prose by twenty-eight modern Armenian writers into English. The most important of these translations, an English version of the first "book" of Hagop Oshagan's long novel Remnants, won a PEN Translation Award in 2009 and was issued by Gomidas Press on the 130th anniversary of Oshagan's birth in December 2013; a second, revised edition appeared in February 2014 and was reissued in a slightly modified version in August of the same year. Goshgarian's translation of Zabel Yessayan's In the Ruins, an account of the author's experiences with survivors of the 1909 Adana pogroms, was issued by AIWA publishing early in 2016. His translations of eight other Armenian writers, including Abovian, K. Zarian, and Varoujan, have appeared in an appendix to Marc Nichanian's Mourning Philology (Fordham University Press, 2014). Among his earlier translations from Armenian are selections from Kurken Mahari's novel Burning Gardens in Nichanian's Writers of Disaster; poems by K. Beledian, G. Emin and V. Grigorian, included in Deviation: Anthology of Contemporary Armenian Literature; and an essay on Artsakh/Karabagh by Vahe Oshagan, available in A. Oshagan and V. Oshagan, Father Land.
Goshgarian has also published translations of twenty-five books and a number of essays from French and German, including work by Janine Altounian, Sévane Garibian, Raymond Kévorkian, Marc Nichanian, Vahé Tachjian, Gilbert Achcar, Louis Althusser, Étienne Balibar, Esther Benbassa, Jacques Derrida, Gérard Genette, Boris Groys, and Hans-Jörg Rheinberger. His edition of Louis Althusser's previously unpublished Initiation à la philosophie pour les non-philosophes was released in 2014 by the Presses universitaires de France, which published his edition of Althusser's Être marxiste en philosophie in March 2015. He has written long introductions to two collections of Althusser's work in English, The Humanist Controversy (London, Verso, 2003) and Philosophy of the Encounter (Verso, 2006), co-edited an Althusser issue of "diacritics", and given an interview on Althusser to the on-line journalPériode. His review article on the Turkish journalist Ece Temelkuran's Deep Mountain: Across the Turkish-Armenian Divide (Verso, 2010) may be found in the Winter 2011 issue of the on-line journal New Politics.
