The Fuller Center for Housing Opens Program in Armenia

YEREVAN, Armenia, May 5, 2008—The Fuller Center for Housing (TFCH) is pleased to announce the signing of a new covenant partnership in Armenia.

The Fuller Center for Housing Armenia will build and renovate homes in partnership with God's people in need so that all Armenians may have a safe, comfortable, simple home which is affordable to own and to maintain. Fuller Center Armenia is a nonprofit ministry which charges no interest, thereby witnessing God's love in action and advocating for the right to decent shelter.

For thousands of families in Armenia, a decent home is only a dream. Many families must raise their children in metal shipping containers, or in dark, damp basements, dilapidated shelters or overcrowded apartments. According to a United Nations Economic Commission for Europe report, around 40,000 families in Armenia do not have permanent shelter.

The Fuller Center for Housing Armenia will focus on completing unfinished houses, replacing and repairing roofs, and installing sanitation and heating systems for low-income families in both urban and rural areas. From April through October each year, the Armenia program hosts teams of international volunteers who help build and repair houses.

The Fuller Center is a grassroots movement, committed to excellent stewardship. TFCH relies on volunteers and donations of money, goods and services to keep costs as low as possible; extremely low administrative expenses mean that almost all donations fund actual home-building and repair. Beneficiaries are carefully selected so that gifts help the neediest deserving families who partner with us.

Volunteer in Armenia with Global Builders program

The construction sites, where the international volunteers and locals build hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, with the spirit of friendship and unity, sharing the same enthusiasm and emotions, become a non-formal platform of interaction between the guests and the local community. This program helps strengthen the cultural and spiritual bridge between the local and international communities, demonstrating the love of Christ in action. Join us in this life-transforming experience: come to Armenia for a 10-14 day-long trip to build and interact with Armenian families, and to see the ancient country of Armenia.

In 2008 there are three different teams that have openings on them. The dates for the trips are:

July 13-26 - Yerevan
August 2 -15 - Yeghegnadzor
October 5 -19 - Vanadzor

Millard Fuller has announced that the first $100,000 raised for the Armenian program will be matched 1-to-1, so that $200,000 can be sent to begin building immediately. Gifts to The Fuller Center are tax-deductible.
