Eastern Armenia is loosely defined as those parts of Armenia once ruled by Russia. That includes today's Republic of Armenia, Karabakh, Azerbaijan's Nakhichevan exclave and the Turkish province of Igdir, Kars and Ardahan. The major dialect of Eastern Armenian is spoken in the former USSR and Iran.
