Mickaelian, Areg M. (b. 1962) Astronomer, Senior Researcher, Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO); One of the founders and Co-President of the Armenian Astronomical Society (ArAS); Initiator and Project manager of the Armenian Virtual Observatory (ArVO); Council member of the Euro-Asian Astronomical Society (EAAS), OC member of the IAU Commission 9; Executive Committee member of the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA). Scientific Secretary of BAO in 1994-2001.

Major research on the First Byurakan Survey (FBS) blue stellar objects, QSOs and Seyfert galaxies, identifications and study of IRAS galaxies and ROSAT X-ray sources, white dwarfs, cataclysmic variables, digitization of the FBS and creation of the Digitized FBS (DFBS) database. Discovery and multiwavelength studies of more than 2000 objects.

Visiting astronomer and professor at a number of foreign research institutes since 1997: Observatoire de Haute-Provence (OHP, France), Cornell University (Ithaca, N.Y., USA), Universita di Roma “La Sapienza” (Rome, Italy), Hamburger Sternwarte (HS, Germany), Observatoire de Lyon (CRAL, France), etc. Participant, invited speaker, and organizer of about 40 international conferences. More than 20 invited seminars given in the USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, India, and other countries.

Member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), European Physical Society (EPS), European Astronomical Society (EAS), “Euroscience”, Euro-Asian Astronomical Society (EAAS), American Astronomical Society (AAS), Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP), Armenian Physical Society (APS), Core member of the IAU Working group Preservation and Digitization of Photographic Plates (PDPP), Associated member of the EAS Sub-Regional European Astronomical Committee (SREAC), Armenian Astronomical Society (ArAS).
